A brush fire burning along the Homewood and Vestavia Hills city line has kept seven fires crews, from both towns, busy Monday evening. Officials say the fire, which started around 5 p.m. along the backside of Vestavia Drive, is challenging to contain because of the high elevation, blustery winds and steep terrain. At last check, around 8:00 p.m., officials say no homes were in immediate danger but hot spots continue to burn. The are affected stems from Highway 31 near Brookwood Medical Center toward Vestavia Hills. Since the fire is close to residential neighborhoods, fire crews are working aggressively to contain the flames and prevent further spreading.
