From school children to everyday folks, the local Walgreens drug store in Homewood has become a second home for dozens stranded by snow fall on Red Mountain. In the land of "Sweet Home Alabama" workers at Walgreens have pulled out chairs and warm smiles for those seeking warmth from the frigid temps. The store is packed with people chatting about skidding off icy roads and just how they didn't expect to snow much snow stick to the roads.

Despite the cold, there's a warmth in the store as people bond with one another and buy needed items such as blankets, water and other items.

Even for me, a journalist stranded as well, Walgreens managers Whitney Warren and Venia McMorris have allowed me to tuck away in the breakroom and file  online reports updating locals on the latest. Indeed, Walgreens in Homewood next to Vulcan Park is more than just a drugstore.
