Traditional fireplaces have been heating homes for centuries. Most fireplaces are better suited as an ornamental piece than as a serious home heating solution long term. A fireplace is better than having no heating solution at all but they are known to be as much as 70%. This means that most of your heat is going up the chimney.
·Try to limit the amount of firewood you use while the power is still operational, always prepare for the worst.
·Keep all flammable objects/people/pets far from flames/heat
·Childproof area with children in house
·Make certain fireplace is secure and manageable before leaving unattended at night
·Wood has small pockets of air and fluid in it. When it is burned, these pockets increase in pressure and pop and crackle as the pressure is released.
