Dead horse investigation in Russell County

Posted: Updated:

A little bit of a mystery forming around Russell County, as the second dead horse has been found in several weeks.

The horse that was dumped on Shady Grove road in Hurtsboro, had its legs tied together and what looked like its tongue sitting on its torso.

A man who lives nearby says he reported the dead horse sometime before Jan. 26.

However, Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor said in a phone interview that he didn't learn about the horse until today. He says the animal control officer who was supposed to investigate simply forgot about it because of last weeks storm.

The officer on scene today took photos of the dead horse. He then contacted Russell County Public Works to come and bury it.
