A Holly Springs woman and foster parent is facing two felony counts of child abuse, according to police.

Prudence Charlyne Shivers, 42, was arrested Feb. 1 and charged with two counts intentional child abuse inflicting serious injury, according to an arrest report.

Authorities say Shivers was a foster parent at the time of incidents. The two victims were ages 4 and 6. Police say the 4-year-old had multiple lacerations to the back, stomach and buttock. The 6-year-old had multiple lacerations to the head, face and buttock.

Police went to the home on a referral from Child Protective Serivices. Police say the children are believed to be Shivers' nephews.

Shivers posted a $60,000 bond on Feb. 1 after being arrested.

Shivers has two biological teen-aged children that will remain in her custody, but the foster children have been removed from the home. Shivers has also been instructed to not come in contact with children under the age of 16 without supervision.

Shivers is a research administration manager at Duke's School of Medicine. She's worked at the university since July 2009.
