Raleigh will be home to new climate hub

Posted: Updated:

Last month President Barack Obama announced Raleigh and N.C. State will be the home of several innovation hubs across the United States.

On Wednesday, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced Raleigh will be one of seven climate hubs across the country.

This initiative is designed to be the middle man between farmers and climate variability research.

"The goals are to basically take the science that we have and to make it user friendly, to make sure it gets in the hands of the consumers and make sure it gets in the hands of the land managers and the landowners," said Steven McNulty, director of the Southeast Regional Climate Hub.

The hope is to predict such things as extreme droughts, fires and pests to help minimize the impact on our local agriculture.

They've already started this initiative by rolling out websites where landowners can find easy to use, valuable information.
