BIRMINGHAM, AL -

UAB head football coach Bill Clarkannounced the signing of 22 prospects to National Letters of Intent onWednesday. It marked Clark's first recruiting class as the head coach of theUAB football program.

"Obviously, we came in at a verylate date from a recruiting standpoint," said Clark. "One of the first thingsthat we wanted to do was look at what our needs were. We wanted to addressthose needs. That's one of the best things to happen out of this class was tobe able to address our needs."

More than half of UAB's recruitingclass was comprised of junior college prospects. A total of 14 prospects playedat the junior college level in 2013. In addition, seven of the 22 prospectsthat signed with the Blazers hail from the state of California.

"We found some really good,quality junior college players that fit our needs," stated Clark. "I am reallyexcited about what we've seen in the brief time that we've gotten to know them.We feel like they are going to address some needs for us."

UAB inked 11 players on theoffensive side of the ball, including seven offensive linemen. Twoquarterbacks, two wide receivers and one running back also joined the Blazers'football program.

10 defensive players signed theirNational Letters of Intent with UAB on Wednesday, including five defensivebacks. Three defensive linemen, one linebacker, and one safety rounded out the2014 UAB football recruiting class.

"We had to address some immediateneeds," concluded Clark. "We had to get older. We are playing in a really toughleague and I'm not going to tell our seniors we are going to win in four years.We are trying to win right now, so we addressed immediate needs."
