Update: Pedestrian struck and killed in Jefferson County identified

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL -
Authorities have identified the woman who was hit by a car Sunday in east Jefferson County.

Blanca Canales, 50, was struck and killed just after 6 p.m.  in the 5600 block of Chalkville Mountain Road near Grayson Valley Drive.

Investigators said Canales was trying to run across Chalkville Mountain Road at the time.

Witnesses from the scene said the woman never seemed to notice car approaching.

The driver of the vehicle has been cooperating with authorities.

No charges will be filed.
