Shelby County EMA staying on top of upcoming winter storm

Posted: Updated:
SHELBY COUNTY, AL - With a chance of winter weather heading our way this week, local emergency management agencies are making preparations.

Local EMA offices are monitoring the forecast for this week. Many agencies held a briefing with the National Weather Service Sunday afternoon and are on standby for any major winter weather event.

Hub Harvey, the director of the Shelby County EMA, says they are staying proactive about the upcoming winter storm. They Shelby County EMA held a briefing with the National Weather Service, as well as local stakeholders.

Harvey says they’re doing what they can to be prepared and they’re asking individuals to do the same.

He says if you need to make preparations, do them now. Harvey says if we're hit with another round of winter weather, the most important thing is for people to stay put and try not to travel.

“If you don't have to get out and about, please don't. We've got a great team with our highway department and Aldot who can get out and make an impact on the roads. But, it's so much easier for them to do their job safely and efficiently if the roads are not cluttered with people."

The Shelby County EMA, along with other e-m-a's in the area are continuing to monitor the situation. They'll have another briefing with the National Weather Service Monday morning.
