ALDOT pretreating roads, bridges in central Alabama ahead of winter storm

Posted: Updated:
ALABAMA - The Alabama Department of Transportation is pre-treating roadways in areas expected to be affected by wintry weather Monday night.

A spokesperson for ALDOT says some work started Sunday night with some state highways that typically have problems during winter weather getting pre-treated with salt brine.

Trucks started working on U.S. Highway 78 in St. Clair County on Monday.  State roads are also getting pre-treated in Cullman County.  All bridges and outside interstate lanes are also being treated in Jefferson and Shelby Counties.

According to ALDOT, divisions in affected areas will also have crews on standby to respond to developing conditions on roads and bridges.  They have equipment already loaded or available to treat the roads and bridges with sand, liquid calcium magnesium acetate spray trucks, dry calcium magnesium acetate, salt brine, and calcium chloride.
