BIRMINGHAM, AL - A former Alabama Power employee has been selected as the company’s new President and CEO.

Monday, the Alabama Power Board of Directors announced its election of Mark A. Crosswhite, a former senior vice president and counsel.

Crosswhite will officially begin his new position March 1.

He succeeds Charles McCrary, who is retiring after serving at the company’s leader for more than 12 years.

Crosswhite was most recently the chief operating officer at Southern Company, Alabama Power’s parent company.

"It is an honor to rejoin the ranks of the 6,700 employees of Alabama Power who, for more than a century, have been dedicated to serving communities across our state," Crosswhite said.

Crosswhite, 51, received his bachelor’s from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and his J.D. degree from the University of Alabama School of Law.

He and his wife, Jane Emily, have two sons.
