Shelters open in St. Clair County due to winter storm

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, AL - The rain in Pell City began transitioning into sleet around 4 p.m. Wednesday, and St. Clair County officials say they are preparing for the worst. When all was said and done, Pell City received about an inch of snow.

The highest concentrations of snow in St. Clair County were in the Moody area, which saw about 2" fall in the area.



First responders and HAM radio operators across St. Clair County are working together to ensure everyone stays safe.

During the January 28 storm, cell phone service dropped out. 60 HAM radio operators are spread out across the county to make sure that emergency operations can continue as needed.

A number of shelters are also open to provide a warm place for anyone in need.
