BIRMINGHAM, AL - As a winter storm packed with snow moved across Central Alabama Wednesday, officials quickly watched roads, bridges and overpasses turn into slush covered terrain.  With reports of driving conditions becoming treacherous, the National Weather Service issued a Civil Emergency Message for all drivers Wednesday evening.  The message urges drivers to stay off of roads.

As of 7:12 p.m. the civil emergency message included nine north central Alabama counties.

A civil emergency message is a message issued by the National Weather Service backed by Federal, state or local government to warn the general public of a non-weather related time-critical emergency.

Below is the official message released by the National Weather Service.
