2-3" of snow in an hour in Birmingham metro, drivers asked to stay off roads until noon tomorrow

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Plows of different shapes and sizes are clearing the roads as fast as possible after mother nature dropped two to three inches of snow inside an hour in the Birmingham Metro area.

"I've never seen that much snow come that quick," said Brian Davis, Alabama Department of Transportation.

Earlier in the evening, Davis had said with the light snowfall he thought the weather event was manageable, but after the quick snow blast he's singing a different tune, calling it a nightmare.

Now he's asking central Alabamians to stay home until noon Thursday, so the plows can clear the interstates then the department can begin treating the roads again.

With about 10 pieces of equipment retrofitted as snowplows it's going to take time to move the snow.

The official snow count at the Jefferson County EMA in downtown Birmingham was three inches.
