No charges expected after suspect killed in home invasion

BEAR CREEK, N.C. - The Onslow County District Attorney says he does not expect charges to be filed after a man was killed during a home invasion in Onslow County.

District Attorney Ernie Lee says the shooting death appears to be justified under the Castle Doctrine and the law of self-defense in this State.

One man is dead and three are behind bars after a home invasion in Hubert.

On Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 7:30pm Onslow County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to Abbotts Branch Lane, in reference to a burglary and gunshot victim. 

Deputies say Michael P. Holliday, Jordan M. Sanford, Brian P. Bailey and Jonathan D. Koncir, conspired to break into the residence belonging to John P. Moore and rob him.  Michael P. Holliday and Brian P. Bailey then entered the residence brandishing a 20 gauge shotgun, while Jonathan D. Koncir and Jordan M. Sanford waited nearby in a getaway car.

While inside the home Bailey and Holliday pointed the shotgun at Moore while demanding drugs and money. Then Moore pulled a 22 cal. pistol and demanded that they leave his residence. During the course of the robbery Holliday was shot before fleeing the residence with Bailey.

The four suspects left the residence en route to the hospital to get care for Holliday who had been shot.  While en route to the hospital the fleeing suspects collided with another vehicle on NC Hwy 172 in Hubert, NC.

Holliday was transported to the Naval Hospital aboard Camp Lejeune for his injuries, but was later pronounced dead.

Sanford, Bailey and Koncir are each charged with First Degree Burglary, Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and are being held on a $200,000 bond.

The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office says there was a shooting in the Bear Creek area Sunday night.


Onslow County Sheriff’s Deputies and Investigators are investigating a shooting that happened around 7:00 Sunday night.

The victim is a male in his late twenties. An identity of the victim and his condition is not known at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is in its early stages, but there doesn’t appear to be any threat to the public.
