Barbour County grand jury in Cameron Massey case postponed

Posted: Updated:
Clayton, Ala. - A grand jury expected to meet Monday in Barbour County to hear testimony related to the fatal police-involved shooting of Cameron Massey has suddenly been postponed, News 3's David Hurst learns.

The District Attorney's Office was expected to present evidence gathered by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation after the death of Cameron Massey. However, District Attorney Ben Reeves tells News 3 that they are still waiting on final autopsy results, and have decided to postpone the grand jury hearing.

Massey was shot and killed during a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 431 in Eufaula on October 15. Members of the community marched a few weeks after the shooting, calling for justice in the case. The organizer of the march, Shanita Porter, says she is frustrated by the hearing’s delay.

“I know for a fact that it's a drawn out process and it takes time, but we just want some answers,” says Porter. “I don't want to be made to feel like everything is put on hold.”

Reeves says he expects the final autopsy results to come in sometime in the next few weeks. Once this happens, he will call a special grand jury to review the case.
