Arrests made in Sayquawn Lamer Wiggins murder

Posted: Updated:
RUSSELL COUNTY, Ala. - Two arrests have been made in the murder of Sayquawn Lamer Wiggins, according to Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor.

Antonio Darcet King and Santago Montrell Davis have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of 18-year-old Wiggins. Both men have been charged with capital murder, King is also facing charges of possession of cocaine and having an illegal firearm. Sheriff Taylor says this is the 5th murder Antonio King has been connected to and he was out on bond for a murder in 2011 at the time of the homicide.

Sheriff Taylor says the three men had a history of fighting and the motive was drug-related.

Sheriff Taylor says both men are related to Wiggins, both uncles, King by birth and Davis by marriage. The three men had a history of fighting and the motive was drug-related, according to Taylor.

"I think the evidence will show that Mr. King started making this threat to Mr. Wiggins back in December and of course five to six months later it comes to fruition,” says Taylor.

Taylor says King also was wearing a GPS tracking device as part of his being out on bond for his previous murder. That bond has been revoked and King is being held in the Russell County Jail with no bond. Davis' bond has been set at $750,000.

Wiggins was found dead outside New Hope Baptist Church in Cottonton, Ala. on January 19. The preliminary investigation concluded Wiggins had died of a gunshot wound. An investigation revealed an assault rifle was used, according to Taylor.
