Authorities investigating a Columbus police-involved shooting

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. - An investigation is underway following a Columbus Police Department officer-involved shooting off of Stratford Drive in Columbus.

Lt. Hastings with the Columbus Police Department says around 7:30 to 7:45 Wednesday night the 911 center got a call in reference to a robbery on Enoch Drive. Before officers arrived on scene at the robbery, the victim called saying the suspects were in the Stratford drive area.

Hastings says officers arrived in the Stratford Drive area and confronted the suspects. An officer fired at the suspects who fled the area in a car. The officer was not injured in the shooting but one of the suspects was shot. Hastings says there are two investigations, an administrative and a criminal investigation. The administrative investigation is standard procedure after an officer fires a gun. They are also investigating the robbery in a criminal investigation.

Lt. Hastings says the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was also called to the scene because one of the suspects was shot.
