Rausch & Pausch opens auto parts manufacturing facility in Auburn

Posted: Updated:
AUBURN, Ala. - A brand new 70,000 square-foot factory is bringing more than 100 new jobs to Auburn, and it is also strengthening the bond between Germany and the U.S.

Rausch & Pausch is a German, family-owned company that's been manufacturing auto parts for four generations. It's the latest of several other foreign companies to bring job growth to Alabama.

Governor Robert Bentley and Auburn Mayor Bill Ham joined RAPA executives in cutting the ribbon to the brand new facility.

"Creating jobs for Alabamians is my favorite thing," says the governor.

The first assembly line will employ 105 workers to build hydraulic accumulators, pieces that help automatically start and stop the engine when a car is idling. The parts will be used by companies like Chrysler and Mercedes.

Company president Dr. Roman Pausch says Auburn is the ideal market for this kind of job. "
We really need a very strong base of workers we can hire from," he says. "This is definitely given here in Auburn with the university. That's the background of engineers."

The German Consul General attended as well, and he used the ceremony as a backdrop for events happening around the world. Consul Christoph Sander says, "We all see the events unfolding in Ukraine, and it has really reminded us that the Transatlantic alliance and relationship is much more than just trade relationship and investment. It's also that joint commitment by Western free democracies to stand in for the right of other people."

Pausch says the factory will eventually employ about 200 skilled workers with an additional two assembly lines, and he estimates that 50 cents of every dollar made will be funneled directly into Auburn's economy. Gov. Bentley says that money should help address the funding problem in Auburn's schools and help the district build new buildings to combat the overcrowding.

"I know growth areas struggle because of the influx of more students into the schools," says Bentley, "so it's something we need to look at. It may be a little late in the process for this year, but we certainly can look at it next year."

The Pausch family calls the rural German town of Selb, home. Roman says the quiet and hospitable nature of Alabama appeals to them. Plus, it is not far from the Atlanta airport, which can shuttle them to and from Germany as needed.

    Heat and humidity continue

The bulk of the rain has been well to our west today and will stay that way for the duration of tonight and tomorrow. We'll only see an isolated shower or storm the next few days due to most of the tropical moisture lifting well north of us. That's all due to an area of low pressure in the upper Midwest that is sucking it all north. This will leave us on the warm and humid side of things, which is why isolated showers and storms are in the forecast the next few days.
