The Talladega National Forest, Oakmulgee District will be prescribed burning today, March 9, 2014. We plan to burn approximately 1,000 acres in the upper watershed of Affonee Creek, near the Bibb-Tuscaloosa county line. Ignition is planned for 10:30 am.
The smoke column may be visible from US 82, Bibb CR 1 & 16, and AL 25. Northwest transport winds will take the smoke southeast between Marion and Greensboro. We will post smoke warning signs along roads as needed. The winds are predicted to carry smoke high and not result in any impacts to travel.
All of our prescribed burns have a detailed prescription covering a range of burning parameters including location of control lines and proper weather forecast.
