Match Day held for UAB's 2014 graduating medical school class

It was Match Day at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Friday.

The 2014 graduating class of UAB’s School of Medicine had a 94% matching rate in a post-graduate position to continue their medical education.

The students will move on for residency training in 77 schools in 31 states.

“Match Day is the end of the years-long journey of hard work and competition for medical students,” said Selwyn Vickers, M.D., senior vice president for Medicine and dean of the School of Medicine. “They’ve completed what may be the most exciting year of their medical careers: the fourth year of medical school, and the culmination of that is matching in a program in the specialty of their dreams and becoming the doctors they have always wanted to be.”

About 1 out of 3 of  UAB’s medical students will stay in Alabama for their residency training.

    The United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham held it's annual prom for students in the LincPoint Program.This year's theme was “Under the sea.”The prom was held at the gymnasium at Aldersgate UMC.The formal wear was donated and volunteers were on hand to help with hair and makeup, as well as decorations.Also, a prom king and queen were crowned at the event.
