"Strollin for you Colon" raises awareness for Colon Cancer

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. - Hundreds of men, women, and children laced up their walking shoes early Saturday morning to take part in the second annual "Strollin' for your Colon" walk. March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and the walk was aimed at raising awareness about the disease. Organizer Cathy Ford says colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths in the country.

"It is so preventable, so treatable. If you would just have your colon done before poll ups turn into cancer that could potentially prevent you from getting colon cancer," said Ford.

She says if you are 50 years old you need to get an initial screening. If you have any symptoms of stomach pain or bleeding you should see your physician. Funds were donated to the West Georgia Cancer Coalition to help raise awareness of the disease.
