Wake school principals to hold 'dance off'

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Principals Chas Miller and Barry Richburg will compete for bragging rights as the best dancing principal in the Wake County Public School System Thursday night at a special performance.

WCPSS said the event is designed to raise school spirit for Conn and Powell Magnet elementary schools, and will also bring in book donations for the WAKE Up and Read Book Drive.

The Principal Dance-Off, which begins at 7 p.m. at Ligon Middle School, will also feature guest appearances and door prizes. Each school’s PTA will also be accepting donations and will have school-themed merchandise available for sale.

Principals have set the “entry fee” for the event at one new or gently used book to benefit the WAKE Up and Read Book Drive. Organizers of the book drive hope to gather 40,000 books by March 29 to be distributed to students birth to age 12 who don’t have regular access to books at home.

To increase the anticipation, Miller and Richburg have traded friendly jabs on YouTube. The challenge began when Conn’s PTA posted a video of Richburg in a flashy teal suit showing his students his Gangnam Style at a Conn event.
