Knightdale High track team aims for another state title

Posted: Updated:
KNIGHTDALE, N.C. -

The view from behind is a common sight for Knightdale opponents.

The Knights track team is working toward its eighth straight indoor/outdoor state title. This is quite an accomplishment for Knightdale High school that opened just 10 years ago.

“They said earlier that we’re a dynasty and that dynasty was built in large part by a handful of fast athletes that have left their mark on the track,” said Marcel Johnson, a member of Knights track team

For seniors, this sentiment has been going on for four years.

Senior Marcell Johnson said, “We had that tag on our back since Day One and we just kept building on it, every year progressing. Come senior year, we’re the team to beat.”

Although it’s a short history, this team is looking to leave a legacy. And so far the Knights have created a name for themselves in a fast way.

The state outdoor track championships are May 16-17.
