Update: Domestic violence suspect catch after two county manhunt

Posted: Updated:
SMITHS STATION, Ala. - A Smiths Station man wanted for domestic violence and for leading authorities on a high speed chase was arrested shortly before 11p Monday.

Law enforcement from two counties searched several hours for Chris Gordy Monday. The 42-year-old is accused of an assault at a home on Lee Road 430, Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones tells WRBL News 3. Before deputies arrived at the home, Gordy left.

Responding deputies spotted Gordy's vehicle and attempted to pull him over but he fled, Sheriff Jones says. Deputies chased Gordy as he traveled at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour on Summerville Road, according to the sheriff. Officials decided to end the chase because of the high volume of other vehicles on the road.

Jones says Gordy was last seen after causing a crash on Lee Road 248 near Lee Road 312. He fled of foot.

Officers were assisted by canine units Monday evening as they searched for Gordy.

A portion of Summervile Road and Lee road 248 was closed much of Monday evening while authorities investigated.
