Police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run March 20 on Capital Boulevard

Ghassan Al-Sabbagh, 55, is charged with felony hit-and-run in connection with the death of 64-year-old Cornelia Olero Amissah.

He was arrested Thursday at Novant Medical Center in Louisburg after his vehicle drew the attention of officers as he passed through a checkpoint. The checkpoint was setup with the intent of identifying a suspect in the hit and run.

Police say Amissah was hit by multiple vehicles and killed around 7 a.m. on March 20.

The driver of one vehicle stopped and remained at the scene while the driver of the light-colored sedan left the area.

According to the Novant Medical Center website, Al-Sabbagh is a gastroenterologist.
