WAKE FOREST, N.C. - Get up, get out and get dirty.

That was the motto behind the first ever "Dirt Day" event in Wake Forest Saturday morning. Hundreds of people gathered to learn the newest techniques in gardening and composting, camping gear and more.

Those in attendance said an event like this is a great opportunity to learn something new and embrace spring.

"It’s a great chance just to engage your community and more specifically to engage the area around you," said David Bissette with Grain Mill Cooperative Grocery.  "It’s a great time to engage the soil, to engage the sky, to really shake off those winter blahs and get out on the ground, put some things in it and watch it grow."

Organizers hope to make "Dirt Day" in Wake Forest an annual event.
