Mickelson praises Columbus caddy Bones Mackay

Posted: Updated:
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Day two of Masters week provided much better weather, meaning players were able to complete practice rounds.

One of the favorites has a former CSU Cougar to thank for his success. It's actually a Columbus College Cougar that Phil Mickelson has to thank.

For the entirety of Mickelson's hall of fame career, he's had Jim "Bones" Mackay on the bag.

Bones was recently elected to that Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame after a distinguished career at Columbus College.

Mackay has caddied for Mickelson since 1992, after a stint with fellow Columbus man Larry Mize.

But now it's Phil and Bones, and it sounds like it'll stay that way until one of them retires.

"I've got the best one,” Mickelson. “Bones has been awesome, and we've been together 22 years now, and it's been the greatest relationship. It's more than just pulling clubs, carrying the bag, getting yardages, reading greens, it's a real relationship with a man that I really respect and love, and I've been so lucky to have him."

Mickelson said the caddie is the second most important relationship as a golfer. The first? His wife.
