A Jefferson County judge has agreed to hold another competency hearing for William Merriweather.

Merriweather is accused of killing two tellers during a 2007 robbery of a Wachovia Bank in Bessemer.  Eva Hudson and Sheila Prevo died in the shooting.

Two other tellers, Anita Gordon and Latoyah Freeman, were injured.

A judge previously heard arguments on the suspect’s competency back in July 2011. Months later, he ruled Merriweather was competent to stand trial.

The latest request from Merriweather’s attorney was filed March 31. The judge responded April 11.

The competency hearing is scheduled for July 21 at 9:00 a.m.
