Birmingham Reads Day celebration kicks off

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Today is Birmingham Reads Day—a day where everyone in the Birmingham-metro area is encouraged to pick up a book and read.

The annual event held each spring is a partnership between Better Basics and the Junior League of Birmingham.

Today hundreds of volunteers will visit K-5 classrooms in Birmingham to read to students.

Meanwhile, the Birmingham Reads Book Drive will be held Friday at Brookwood Village. Alabama’s 13 will be there all day collecting new or gently used books for kids in need.

The three-day event concludes Saturday with the Birmingham Reads Celebrates street festival at Brookwood Village. The family-friendly festival will include live music, face painting and games for all ages. The celebration will lasts from 11:00 a.m. until 2 p.m.
