Bama Gymnastics Advances To NCAA Team Finals

 The Alabama gymnastics team scored a 197.650 to advance to tomorrow night’s NCAA Super Six Team Finals in the second session of the 2014 NCAA Championships semifinals here in the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center.
Alabama tied with Florida for top honors on the night while Nebraska slipped ahead of past champions Utah and UCLA for the third spot out the second semifinal session. Oklahoma, Georgia and LSU advanced out of Friday’s first semifinal session to complete the Super Six. Alabama has now advance to an NCAA-best 20 Super Six finals. 
The Crimson Tide was led by senior Kim Jacob who scored a 39.625 to win the NCAA All-Around Championship, the sixth in Crimson Tide history and first since Jeana Rice in 2004.
After getting off to a strong start on its first two events, Alabama rocked the floor exercise, posting a 49.575 behind a 9.95 from Jacob and then finished off the night with a 49.350 on the vault led by sophomore Lauren Beers and Kaitlyn Clark, who both scored 9.9s.
Alabama got things started with another strong uneven bars rotation, posting a team score of 49.375 behind freshman Aja Sims’ 9.925. The team total tied for the seventh highest in school history at the NCAA Championships.
The Tide continued to roll on the balance beam, turning in a 49.375 behind Jacob’s 9.925. It was the Tide’s sixth highest beam total in its 32 NCAA Championship appearances.
