Trap set up to catch a dog that bit a Birmingham Police Officer Tuesday

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A Birmingham Police Officer was bit by a dog Tuesday morning.

The incident happened around 8:00 a.m. in the 2800 block of Terrace R--that's in the Ensley area.

The officer was bitten on his finger. He was treated at UAB Highlands and is expected to be okay.

Authorities tried to catch the dog after the incident but were unsuccessful.

BJC Animal Control officers have now set up a live trap in the area. The trap is expected to remain active for the next 24-48 hours.

Animal control officials say they plan to quarantine the animal for about 10 days.

Right now, there is no information on the dog’s owner.
