BESSEMER, AL - Firefighters spent part of the evening Tuesday fighting a large fire at the U.S. Pipe plant in Bessemer.

The fire started around 11:30 last night at the facility located at 2023 St. Louis Avenue.

Investigators say the blaze started in a building where workers paint pipes and the paint caused the fire to spread to other areas.

Smoke and flames were visible for miles from Interstate 59.

It took firefighters from three different stations more two hours to get the fire under control.

The plant was in operation with workers inside at the time, however no one was injured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
