A creative group of Samford University students are thousands of dollars richer after competing in the 2014 Regions New Venture Challenge business plan competition.

The 6th annual event, hosted by Regions Bank, created an exciting opportunity for Samford University’s Brock School of Business students to compete in one of two categories, BUSA 100 and Open Division , both aimed at spurring viable new businesses and supporting future entrepreneurs.

This year, six student business groups edged out a host of other student business groups in the competition’s previous round. The students, who are a mix of undergraduate and graduate students,  presented their business ideas in front of seasoned judges and Regions’ bank executives.

The groups who presented in the BUSA 100 competition were Cereally, Destination Station and Recycle and Return. In the Open Division competition, Quick Work, Release Rowing and Work of Worth presented business ideas ranging from non-profit organizations to a “maintenance work request” app for smart phones.

Destination Station won first place in the BUSA 100 competition and received a $2,500 prize toward supporting their business venture which aims to provide a safe, educational childcare resource for low-income parents.

In the Open Division competition, Quick Work, LLC. won first place and received a $7,500 prize toward further expanding  and implementing  a maintenance work request app already  in its trial phase at Samford University.

Regions Bank donated $20,000 to fund the 2014 competition. Since its start, six years ago, Region’s overall contribution tops more than  $120,000.
