University of Richmond: Two athletic staffers on Virginia balloon that crashed

Posted: Updated:
The University of Richmond community is preparing for graduation with heavy hearts after word that two athletic staff members were aboard a crashed hot air balloon.

The balloon drifted into a power line, burst into flames and crashed in Virginia Friday evening. Two bodies have been found.

University administrators said in a news release that associate head coach Ginny Doyle and director of basketball operations Natalie Lewis were two of the three people aboard the balloon that crashed Friday night. Investigators haven't said which bodies were found. President Edward L. Ayers says the two women were beloved by the community.

Investigators say the remains of two people were found about a mile apart in dense woods. They are planning to resume their search in the morning for the remains of the third person aboard the balloon.
