Birmingham’s airport has plans to become more artistic.

The airport’s Board of Directors approved an art program that will allow collections of art throughout the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

The program will include works from local artists, as well as artists from across the USA.

“We want to create an art experience at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport that will introduce and showcase the work of local artists as well as acquired work,” said Gaynell Hendricks, chair of the Birmingham Airport Authority Board of Directors.  “Art is such a rich element in Alabama’s cultural heritage. We want to share that heritage with travelers.”

Meanwhile, work continues to update and improve many areas of the airport.

The final phase of the Terminal Modernization Project is expected to be complete by the end of Summer 2014.
