Central taps Dubose as new football coach

PHENIX CITY, Ala. -

Jamey Dubose has been named the new head coach of the Phenix City-Central football team.

The move was announced at an assembly at the high school on Tuesday.

Dubose comes to Central after just four months at Charles Henderson in Troy, Ala.

“If I wouldn’t have been at Troy, I would have said yes immediately when they offered,” Dubose said. “It was so hard. I had to think about it, and it wasn’t because I didn’t want to be here. It was because the four months in Troy, the relationships that I had built with the kids. It hurts, but it’s part of the business.”

Dubose has been a head coach for eight years and has had success everywhere he’s been. He’s coached exactly 100 games and won 71 of them, and made his name in his four years at Prattville. Dubose won the 6A state championship in 2008 and 2011, and finished as state runner-up in 2009.

With Central’s move to 7A next year, he now has opportunity to add success in the state’s largest classification.

“Central High School is one of the elite programs in Alabama,” he said. “Any time you have the opportunity to go to a large school division such as Central, and then have the opportunity to compete for a state championship, it’s just a good opportunity to have.”

Central is coming off a season where they missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
