Tide blanked in WCWS championship opener

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -

Game one of the Women’s College World Series championship series featured two of the top pitchers in the nation, and it was the Crimson Tide bats that were affected the most.

Alabama fell to Florida, 5-0, in the first of a best-of-three series, the first all-SEC matchup in history.

Florida struck first in the third, when Aubree Munro blasted a deep home run to left field, giving the Gators what proved to be the winning run.

Two straight two-out hits would make it 3-0 after five innings, and the Gators added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.

Alabama, meanwhile, did not get its first hit until the fifth inning, and was shut out for just the third time all year. Ace Jaclyn Traina was roughed up to the tune of five runs, four earned on eight hits in 6.1 innings.

Haylie McCleney, Jadyn Spencer and Kaila Hunt accounted for all four Tide hits, with Hunt notching two.

Game two is Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. CT/8 ET.
