TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -

The Alabama baseball team saw their season end Monday afternoon with a 4-2 loss to Kennesaw State in the Tallahassee regional final.

Russell County High School alum Jay Shaw made his first career start, getting a no-decision after giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits in 4.2 innings.

Alabama trailed 1-0 going into the fifth, but Wade Wass scored Georgie Salem with a single to center, tying the game. Later in the inning, with Wass on third, Austen Smith sent a deep fly ball to center, and Wass scored the go ahead run on the sacrifice.

The lead would not last. Kennesaw State tied it with a double from Max Pentecost in the bottom of the fifth, scoring the tying run. Back-to-back doubles with two outs would give the Owls a lead they would not relinquish.

Alabama put the tying run on base in the top of the ninth, but with two outs, Kyle Overstreet took a borderline pitch that was called strike three, ending the game and the Tide’s season.

The Crimson Tide finishes the year 37-24 overall. Kennesaw State, a former Peach Belt conference member, advances to the first Super Regional in school history, where they will face Louisville.
