BIRMINGHAM, AL - "One of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make," Cedric Lane said.

Lane is no longer the head basketball coach at Wenonah High School.  It's a position he's held for the last ten years, while winning a three-peat of class 5A state championships from 2011 to 2013.

"The kids that played for me will be forever in debited to Wenonah and so will I," Lane said.  "But it was just a move that had to be made."

The move?  Across town to Jackson-Olin High School, where he will be the athletics director, in addition to coaching varsity basketball.

"I don't know any players, I don't know anything about the team, I'm just coming in blindfolded, just hoping to do a decent job," Lane said.

Lane said the decision for the change was "a lot of different things.  But also an opportunity to ignite another community with a basketball program".

"There's not been a real strong history here in quite some time," Lane.  "We're trying to change that."

Lane will continue teaching english classes, but may also coach other sports.

"At Wenonah I was softball coach, we been to the state regionals for eight years straight," Lane said.  "But I don't know if I will be coaching softball here or not. I have not had that conversation yet."
