BIRMINGHAM, AL - A Birmingham man accused in a 2013 murder has been found guilty of the crime.

The trial for Derrick Allen wrapped up Thursday with the jury finding the defendant guilty on two counts of capital murder in the shooting death of 33 year-old Adam Murrow, also of Birmingham.

In addition, the jury recommended a sentence of life without parole in a 12 to 0 vote.

Prosecutors said Allen, 22, and another man were trying to steal money and hydrocodone pills from Murrow when the victim was shot inside a vehicle. The incident happened in March of last year. A woman was also injured during the attempted robbery.

The other suspect, 23 year-old Eric Rahmaan, had already pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of felony murder earlier this year.

Although the jury has made its sentence recommendation, the final decision will be made by the judge. That sentencing date is scheduled for August 7 at 9:00 a.m.
