LUFKIN, TX -

A group of hunters from Texas now hold the world record for the largest American alligator caught legally.

Justin Wells, of Bossier City, La., along with his three friends, Ryan Haltom, Tommy Bass and Jarrett Janus, caught the gator seven years ago in the Chalk Creek.

But it was not until this year they were recognized for the massive catch.

The Safari Club International officially named the 880-pound alligator as the world's largest American alligator caught legally.

The 14-foot-8-inch alligator has since been mounted.
