COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Authorities followed a trail of blood to find a burglary suspect after police say he cut his hand trying to break into Henry’s Taste of Louisiana, a cajun restaurant on Hamilton Road in Columbus.

Columbus police say they were called to the restaurant after the alarm went off at about 5 a.m. Friday morning. Police say they found the front window shattered and blood on the floor, on the glass and on the walls. Police say Tayquan Pollard, 40, punched through the window, severely cutting his hand in the process.

“The first thing I thought was, is he still alive? I didn't think he was going to make it. There was a lot of blood,” said Kendra Favors, the restaurant’s Supervisor.

Favors says they also found blood on a flat-screen TV, indicating that he probably tried to take it. But because he cut his hand, he most likely was unable to carry the TV out. Officers followed a trail of blood, and found Pollard hiding under a nearby home on 51st Street.

Favors says it's the second time in the past year someone has broken into the restaurant. Both times someone tried to steal a TV and both times the suspects have been caught.

“If you come here and try to steal, you might not make it,” said Favors. “You might lose your life.”

Hospital officials told News 3 late Friday afternoon that Pollard was still in the hospital. He was listed in satisfactory condition, expected to be released soon.

Pollard will be booked into the Muscogee County Jail once he's released from the hospital.
