Lions clinch playoff berth with win over Alabama

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Columbus Lions clinched a playoff berth with their first road win of 2014, a 69-31 victory over the Alabama Hammers Saturday night.

Columbus will play at Nashville on July 5 in the Professional Indoor Football League semifinals.

The Lions led 28-3 after just 17 minutes of play Saturday night, with Leroy Vann opening up the scoring. Jarmon Fortson added an 18-yard touchdown reception and Vann added another on the ground to make it 21-3. Damian Daniels returned a second-quarter interception 42 yards for a touchdown to add seven more.

Fortson ended up as the offensive player of the game with seven catches for 125 yards and three touchdowns.

Columbus ends the regular season Friday, June 27 in the last game of the regular season at Rome against the Georgia Fire.
