Carr, Harris commit to Tigers over Tide

The Auburn Tigers had a good Tuesday with a pair of big-time commitments coming mere hours from one another.

In both instances, Auburn beat out rival Alabama for the recruit.

First, four-star offensive lineman Tyler Carr from Southside-Gadsden High School put on the Tiger hat about 12:00 p.m. CT this afternoon. He said it was a difficult decision, and he didn’t decide until about 24 hours before his announcement.

“You have to trust your gut on a lot of things,” Carr said. “I really just believed that’s where I deserved to be and that’s where I needed to be. I feel great. I feel like a burden has been lifted and I feel tremendous. I really didn’t know until about 12 o’clock yesterday. It was really tough. Both are great programs, and at the end of the day, I felt like this is where I needed to be.”

Carr will enroll in January, allowing him to go through the 2014 spring practice.

Then about six hours later, three-star tight end Jalen Harris from St. James School in Montgomery also committed to Auburn. Harris said he grew up an Alabama fan, but a visit to Auburn as a sophomore sold him on the Plains, and he would commit if the Tigers offered.

An Alabama offer about two weeks before made him think, but in the end, he stuck with his first thought.

“It was a little difficult, but they do things a little differently at Auburn, which is fine with me,” Harris said. “It doesn’t matter to me if they offered first or last. In my mind, I knew I wanted to go to Auburn. I felt comfortable with all the coaches. My parents were comfortable. It was just a family feel.”
