HOOVER, AL -

A Hoover man is dead after a explosion and fire at his home.

Hoover police and firefighters responded to a home on Burning Tree Circle near Montgomery Highway. Heavy smoke was coming form home when they got there.

People that live near that home where the smoke is coming from had to be evacuated for safety reasons.

"Hoover police EOD, the bomb squad is checking to make sure there's nothing that can be hazardous in there and again, this is all for safety," Captain Jim Coker  said.

Captain Jim Coker with Hoover P.D. says one man was killed in this incident. Kim Evans lives not far from where the man was killed.

"I think there were four other people in the house and I think they were upstairs asleep and they heard an explosion and they got out and the other person didn't," Kim Evans

Police wont say who the man is that was killed until next of kin is notified.

"My heart goes out to the people that are hurting," Lisa White said.

Captain Coker says it's now safe for those evacuated to return home.
