Posted: Updated:
TUSCALOOSA, AL - The Tuscaloosa Police Department is investigating the shooting of a nine year old child.

The shooting happened around 9:00 p.m. in the 1800 block of 41st Avenue. Investigators say a 17 year old male and a 9 year-old boy were at the basketball court in Hayes Court when another 26 year old male approached them.

Authorities believe the two older men knew each other. They began discussing an ongoing dispute, before the 17 year old became afraid and began running. The child followed the teenager and shots were fired.

The child was hit in his left arm and lower left side. His injuries were not life-threatening, but he was transported to Children’s of Alabama because of his age.

The 17 year old and the child have not been able to tell investigators who was shooting.

The investigation continues.
