JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL - The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a former teacher from John Carroll Catholic High School.

Robert Leland Grant, 26, has been charged with two counts of a School Employee Having Sexual Contact with a student under 19.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the school contacted authorities back in February to report claims that a male teacher had been involved in an inappropriate relationship with two 16 year-old females.

During the investigation, deputies discovered the teacher would meet the teenagers at separate locations away from the school grounds. Authorities say the teacher and students would engage in inappropriate sexual contact that included “touching of a sexual nature” and “kissing.”

Deputies believe the inappropriate relationships began in May 2013 and lasted until December 2013.

Grant resigned from his position at John Carroll after he was notified of the internal investigation being conducted by school administrators.

Grant was arrested Monday and placed in the Jefferson County Jail. He is currently out of jail after posting an $11,000 bond.
