Posted: Updated:

Former UAB men’s golfer Graeme McDowell recorded a 279 (-5) to successfully defend his Open de France title at Le Golf National in Paris, France. McDowell was eight strokes back of the lead headed into the final day and scored a one-stroke victory over Thongchai Jaidee and Kevin Stadler.

The two-time All-American scored a four-under final round at the par-71 course to secure his 11th career win on the European Tour. It marked his first tournament victory of the 2014 season, as well.

McDowell played at UAB from 1999-2002 and earned back-to-back All-America honors in 2001 and 2002. He also earned the Fred Haskins Trophy in 2002, awarded to the top collegiate golfer in the nation.
