HOOVER, AL -
A lot of the buzz surrounding Auburn at media day was about a player that was absent, quarterback Nick Marshall. His marijuana possession citation on Friday cost him a trip to represent his university at media day. That citation got the media asking the  team leaders how they felt about it about Marshall's off-the-field behavior.

"My initial reaction was 'dang'," center Reese Dismukes said. " That's not what you expect to happen."

Tight end C.J. Uzomah replaced quarterback Nick Marshall for Monday's media tour. Uzomah said he is disappointed in Marshall's actions, but not concerned.

"He expressed remorse for his actions," Uzomah said.  "He said he was going to take the punishment with open palms, as he should. We have not lost any faith in him, he is still the leader of our team. He knows that. That's pretty much what he said. It was short and sweet."

Short, as in 13 seconds short was the amount of time came from winning the BCS National Championship last year. The Tigers will use each precious second as motivation to improve.

"We were 13 seconds away. We're going to use that mentality to get better at everything we do," Uzomah said. "Coach Malzahn pulled us together, we're going to brush our teeth 13 seconds better, we're going to sleep 13 seconds longer. We're going to do whatever it takes to win each game better and to prepare harder than we ever have."

"We weren't able to complete the ultimate task and goal that is at the end of the tunnel," Dismukes said. "We can use that as motivation. At the end of the day, it's a new season, we play in the best league, and you're going to have to be ready to take on the monsters of the conference."
